Ignacy Zalewski

 

 


Dr. habil., Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

From 2009 to 2014 he studied composition under Prof. Marcin Błażewicz at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, receiving his diploma with distinction. From 2014 to 2015 he was a student of Prof. Krzysztof Penderecki. In addition, during his studies he participated in numerous courses and workshops led by Prof. Wolfgang Rihm (Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe), Prof. Lowell Liebermann (Mannes College The New School for Music, New York), and Prof. Vladimir Scolnica (Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance).

He is the author of music for several dozen productions: theatrical, film, television, and radio. In the field of film and television he collaborated, among others, with WFDiF, Netflix, Bagatela Studio, TVP Television Theatre, TVP Kultura, and Granator Studio. Theatrical productions with music by Ignacy Zalewski are staged at the most important Polish theatres, including the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Kraków, the Dramatic Theatre in Warsaw, the Jewish Theatre in Warsaw, the Silesian Theatre in Katowice, and the Ludwik Solski Theatre in Tarnów. The composer cooperates permanently with Polish Radio Theatre.

Ignacy Zalewski holds the degree of habilitated doctor of musical arts and is a professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. Since 2014 he has been a lecturer at his alma mater, and since 2020 he has led a composition class. From 2020 to 2024 he was dean of the Faculty of Composition and Music Theory at UMFC. From 1 September 2024 he has served as head of the Department of Composition.

He has been a member (since 2012) and chairman of the Audit Committee of the Polish Authors’ Society ZAiKS. He also belongs to the Polish Composers’ Union. Ignacy is interested in Buddhist philosophy, forgotten music, and video games (the latter both in his free time and professionally).
