Ignacy Zalewski

 

 



From 2009 to 2014, he studied composition with Professor Marcin Błażewicz at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, receiving a diploma with an "outstanding" grade. From 2014 to 2015, he was a student of Professor Krzysztof Penderecki.

In addition, he attended numerous courses and workshops during his studies, led by Prof. Wolfgang Rihm (Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe), Prof. Lowell Liebermann (Mannes College The New School for Music, New York) or Prof. Vladimir Scolnica (Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance). He is passionate equally about writing concert music as well as film, theatre & video games soundtracks. In these areas he has collaborated with WFDiF, Netflix, MTL MAXFILM, SolidGames, Bagatela Studio, TVP Television Theatre, TVP Kultura, Granator Studio, among others. Theatre plays with music by Ignacy Zalewski are staged at the most important Polish theatres, including the J. Słowacki Theatre in Krakow, the Dramatic Theatre in Warsaw, the Jewish Theatre, in Warsaw, the Silesian Theatre in Katowice, the L. Solski Theatre in Tarnów. 

The composer constantly cooperates with the Polish Radio Theatre. Ignacy Zalewski was given a PhD diploma in Music (2015) as well as DsC. (habilitacja) in 2020. He is a professor of composition at the Chopin University of Music. He has been a lecturer at his alma mater since 2014 and has taught the composition class since 2020. 

From 2020 to 2024 he was dean of the Faculty of Composition and Music Theory at the Chopin University of Music. Since 1 September 2024, he serves as a Head of the Chair of Composition at the University. Ignacy is a member and chairman of Auditing Comittee of ZAiKS Society of Authors. He also is a member of Polish Composers' Union. Ignacy's hobbies and interests includes buddhist philosophy, forgotten music and video games (the latter both professionally and in his free time).
