Janusz Wawrowski

 

 


Professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

Janusz Wawrowski is considered one of the most outstanding and experienced violinists of his generation. He has performed as a soloist, among others, at the Musikverein in Vienna, Wigmore Hall in London, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Beethoven-Saal in Stuttgart, Seoul Arts Center, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic in Vilnius, De Doelen in Rotterdam, the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Teatro Teresa Carreño in Caracas, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, NFM in Wrocław, NOSPR in Katowice, and the M. Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin.

For many years he has been associated with Warner Classics, for which he has released seven solo albums and a number of singles. His recordings have received excellent critical reviews and many significant awards. His album Phoenix received nominations for ICMA 2022, PdSK, Opus Klassik 2021, and Fryderyk 2022. It was also selected as Album of the Month by British Presto Classic and Album of the Week by London radio Classic FM, Norddeutscher Rundfunk, and Polish Radio Two.

Winner of the Fryderyk Award in 2017 and 2019, the most important phonographic distinction in Poland.

The artist has premiered many violin concertos. Works were written especially for him by Tomasz J. Opałka, Marcin Markowicz, Norbert Palej, Dariusz Przybylski, and Albena Petrovic. On his initiative, a unique reconstruction of Różycki’s Violin Concerto was created, which was lost in Warsaw destroyed by the Uprising in 1944.

For outstanding artistic and social activity, he was honored by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage with the medal Meritorious for Polish Culture. He has also received a nomination for the “Coryphaeus of Polish Music” Award in the category “Personality of the Year” 2018 and the Norwid Award statuette in 2019.

He plays a 1685 Antonio Stradivari violin.
